The Adventure Diver course is an ‘enhanced’ try dive experience, which gives potential new members credit towards either a full Discovery Diver or Ocean Diver qualification.
It’s a more comprehensive scuba taster for those interested in learning to dive.
This is a versatile taster course that can be used by both BSAC clubs and centres to help boost try diver-to-trainee conversion rates. Thanks to its modular format, Adventure Diver is also a great way to engage youth groups such as the Scouts in BSAC diver training and bring the next generation of divers into the club.

There is one sheltered in-water session where you’ll get to develop practical scuba skills under the watchful eye of an instructor. The course comes with 12 months’ BSAC membership included.
Adventure Diver brings together the first elements of scuba training to give you the thrill of the underwater world!
During this course you will learn:
- How to correctly fit a mask
- How to fit, use and clear a snorkel
- How to breathe comfortably from a demand valve (regulator) underwater
- How to develop a good finning action
- Good horizontal trim position underwater
- Basic scuba signals, including ‘ok’, ‘up’, ‘down’ and more
On completion of both the Adventure Diver eLearning theory and practical elements of the course, you will be given credit towards a full BSAC scuba qualification.
What diving experiences will this open up for me?
With the knowledge and experience from Adventure Diver you’ll understand the basics of breathing underwater using scuba.
Completing this course will give you a head start on becoming a qualified scuba diver with BSAC. You’ll receive 10 digital issues of the member magazine (iSCUBA) as part of your membership, giving you inspiration for the adventures that await and introducing you to the BSAC community of passionate divers and snorkellers across the world.
Adventure Diver consists of two eLearning theory modules, plus one practical sheltered water session:
- Theory: purchase Adventure Diver eLearning and complete the lessons from the comfort of home;
- Practical: this can be taught in a branch or BSAC Centre, where available. The practical element includes diving in a pool using a full scuba set.
Please note there will be an additional cost to completing the practical part of the course.
After completing your Adventure Diver course
With BSAC's Adventure Diver course, your diving adventure is only just beginning. You're only a few modules away from becoming a Discovery Diver (from age 10), which would enable you to dive in open-water in controlled conditions to 12m under the direct supervision of a Dive Leader or higher-grade diver. Or Ocean Diver (from age 12), which is the next grade in BSAC’s Diver Training Programme and opens up diving to depths of up to 20m.
