The Diving for All Awareness Course (formerly known as Dive Managers & Buddies) will further your existing Dive Management and Buddy skills by giving you additional tools and approaches to understand diving to people with disabilities in your club or centre, making our sport truly safe for all.
If you are a qualified BSAC diver who will be buddying divers with disabilities or a club Dive Manager, then this course is for you.
The two-hour theory Diving for All Awareness Course is a great way to find out how you can enhance your buddy and Dive Management skills to dive safely people with disabilities. There is the opportunity to practise everything that you learn, above and below the water.
To enrol you must already be a BSAC Ocean Diver or above (or have equivalent certification from another recognised training agency).
If you have experience and knowledge of buddying a diver with a disability you can apply to the DfA Chief Instructor for recognition to the level of DfA Awareness. Simply email the DfA Chief Instructor detailing your experience, number of dives and managed dives and the considerations you have taken into account when diving and managing a diver with disability.
The Diving for All Awareness Course focuses on the skills and techniques needed to buddy and dive manager people with a range of disabilities. The course includes sessions on:
- Disability in context of diving
- Coping with disability – the everyday and dealing with daily tasks
- Communicating
- Equipment considerations
- Going diving
- Expedition planning
- Legal and moral
- Medical
- Conditional qualifications
Having completed the Diving for All Awareness Course you will have been given the tools to dive with a person with disability and the additional Dive Manager considerations that could be needed.
As usual as a BSAC diver, exactly what level in of Dive Management you will be able to conduct depends on your personal diving qualification.
The Diving for All Awareness Course is run as an online webinar several times a year or can be run in branch by a Diving For All Instructor.

Your next steps – developing your skills
Having consolidated your Diving for All Awareness knowledge on this course, you will be better prepared to put them into practice in your club.
If you are an instructor you could also go on to develop specific skills to expand your personal diving interests or progress to become a Diving for All Instructor.
Or you may want to continue your diver training to the next level.
