Do you want to help move BSAC forward and play a key role in its growth and development? Then nominations are now open for BSAC council.

BSAC is accepting candidate nominations for the Council positions that are becoming available in May 2024, with the closing date of 31 January 2024 for applications to be submitted. The 2024 Election sees some key Council positions becoming available – National Diving Officer (NDO) and Honorary Treasurer as well as two Council member posts.

Skills and experience

Council is the board of directors of BSAC, and so it is your business leadership that we need rather than your diving expertise, although we do have a shared passion for diving.

BSAC is particularly looking for volunteers with specific experience or expertise in:

  • Charity or National Sports Governing Body (NGB governance)
  • Brand development and marketing
  • PR, Media, Comms and reputation management
  • Other diving training agencies
  • Sources of funding
  • Implementing EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) strategies
  • International business development and partnering
  • Commercial diving/retail

Post-specific requirements

In addition to the role of ordinary Council members, there are additional skills and experience requirements for the post of  NDO and Honorary Treasurer.

  • National Diving Officer - candidates must be a National Instructor
  • Honorary Treasurer - all candidates must be a qualified accountant, (as defined by the Companies Act 2006) or can demonstrate a similar level of financial / accounting experience

A full list of the desired skills and experiences can be found in the BSAC Council election pack, which can be downloaded. Successful candidates in the 2024 BSAC election will take up their Council positions at the club’s AGM next May.

BSAC Chair, Edward Haynes said he hoped that more members with diverse skills as well as a passion for scuba and snorkelling would put their names forward for the Election 2024.

Participating as part of the BSAC Council team can be a hugely rewarding experience and offers the chance to bring your own skillset as well as a shared love of diving to the board.

With the exciting opportunities as well as challenges ahead for BSAC, we are now looking for candidates with the right mix of business leadership, skills and experience to join the team.

For more information on the role of NDO, Honorary Treasurer or ordinary Council member and an informal chat, please contact BSAC’s Chair, Edward Haynes

Nominees must be listed as a paid-up full BSAC member on the BSAC database as at 23:59, 31 January 2024. You may only apply for one position.
