A new opportunity has become available to take part in the governance of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the UK National Governing Body for scuba diving and snorkelling.

BSAC is looking to appoint a new Audit Committee Chair. This requires a person with board level financial experience. If that sounds like you and you’re seeking a new challenge, we would like to hear from you.

New Terms of Reference for the Audit Committee have been approved by Council, and a new Chair and subsequently other committee members will be appointed in accordance with the terms.

The responsibilities of the Audit Committee include commenting on the appointment and on any questions of resignation or dismissal of the external auditors, commenting on the audit fee and any other fees payable to the auditors, reporting to Council on the annual accounts, discussing the scope and nature of any audit issues, and reporting on the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management processes.

About the Audit Committee Chair role

The primary role of the Audit Committee chair is to lead and manage the BSAC Audit Committee to deliver against its Terms of Reference. We are looking for individuals with the business skills and experience required to Chair the Audit Committee effectively.

The role will also include overseeing the appointment of committee members as well as liaising with the stakeholders including Honorary Treasurer, CEO, COO and the Auditors.

The Audit Committee Chair is expected to report periodically to BSAC Council on the activities and findings of the Audit Committee and is likely to be asked to provide recommendations for improvements to risk management and audit processes.

Who we’re looking for

The Chair (and indeed all Committee members) could be a member of BSAC but must be independent of the day-to-day activities of the Executive and of Council.

You should have proven experience in senior financial or audit roles, preferably with experience on an Audit Committee. You will also have good knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, and financial regulations.

Why volunteer with BSAC?

By taking on this important position you will to be involved in oversight and management of a National Governing Body, with opportunities for personal development and solving challenges relating to responsible governance.

While this is a voluntary role, we cover travel expenses and provide a comprehensive induction to ensure you're well-prepared for the journey ahead. The Audit Committee meets twice a year, and the term length of this position is for an initial three years.
