BSAC members are being encouraged to get involved with National Marine Week 2026, The Wildlife Trusts' annual celebration of the wonderful wildlife found in the seas around the UK.

Running from 25 July to 9  August (to take advantage of the tides), The Wildlife Trusts will be running sea-themed events to encourage and inspire.

Wildlife Trusts logoThis year will be a joint celebration with BSAC Marine Champions helping to inspire people about the sea and take action to help better protect it, as well as learn more about our relationship with this incredible habitat that surrounds us.

Activities planned range from exploring the secret world of rockpools, to picnicking with a porpoise to see what we can see from the clifftops, or even giving snorkelling a try to learn about what lives beneath the waves.

No matter where you are in the UK, there’s plenty to celebrate: our seas are home to over half of all our wildlife (more than 30,000 species), help water purification, mitigate our climate, and provide the oxygen for every other breath you take! And remember, in the UK you’re never more than 70 miles from the sea.

Ruth Williams, Head of Marine Conservation at The Wildlife Trusts said:

This National Marine Week, The Wildlife Trusts and BSAC are bringing people closer to the incredible world beneath our coasts. Whether you dive in or lend a hand on shore, your actions can make a real difference. Through supporting National Marine Week, we can share the underwater world and it's delights with an even wider audience. From seabed to shoreline, every action counts — please get involved this National Marine Week and help protect our seas.

Katherine Knight, BSAC Chair of Environment and Sustainability said:

It is fantastic that The Wildlife Trusts will be partnering with BSAC's Marine Champion Action Weekends. Together we will be able to amplify the value of the underwater perspective which we enjoy as divers and snorkellers, turning data from divers into meaningful action for the conservation of the marine environment.

How to get involved

Marine Champion Action Days are the perfect way to bring your club together, join with other clubs and share a fun weekend of action to aid our waters. Whether you want to take part in one of BSAC’s core conservation activities or are keen to volunteer for Marine Champion partner activities, by organising an Action Day you'll be helping clean up the marine environment and contributing to our strategy to protect our waters.
