Places are now available on the BSAC Instructor Foundation Course (IFC), which is a two-day training event held at locations nationwide.

Completing the IFC is the first step for members who would like to progress towards scuba diving instruction, and is a pre-requisite for the prestigious Open Water Instructor (OWI) qualification.

About the IFC

Held over a weekend, this course is a great introduction to teaching diving theory in a classroom, and practical skills.

It is an introduction to BSAC's extensive network of highly skilled diving instructors – the driving force behind the club’s worldwide reputation for training excellence and safety.

The course is great fun and gives you a chance to mix with divers from far and wide!

Skills taught on the IFC

The two-day IFC introduces a qualified diver to the essential elements of both theory and practical diving instruction.

On the Instructor Foundation Course attendees learn how to:

  • Break down basic diving skills into easy steps
  • Successfully develop the skills of a trainee
  • Give useful feedback to trainees
  • Develop your theory and practical instructing skills

Learning on the IFC

After completing an IFC the attendee will be awarded the Assistant Diving Instructor qualification. They are then able to teach diving in a club with the help of qualified instructors.

An attendee must be a BSAC member, aged at least 16 years old, and hold a Sports Diver (or equivalent) qualification as a minimum to enrol on an IFC.

You can find further information on the Instructor Foundation Course online. Events are scheduled throughout 2024, and places are available to book on to now.
