Looking for a new challenge? If so, the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) could have an extraordinary opportunity waiting for you! BSAC, the National Governing Body for scuba diving and snorkelling in the UK, is looking for an Independent Non-Executive Director (NED) to join its team.
We’re looking for someone who has not had any previous involvement with BSAC or scuba diving.
As with any board, we are looking for individuals with the business skills and experiences required to administer an organisation effectively. We are especially interested in individuals with skills and experience in one or more of these areas: national sports governing bodies, charity governance, international business development and funding sources.

We are looking for people who:
- Have a clear commitment to improving diversity and promoting inclusion in BSAC and have an awareness of the needs of under-represented groups.
- Have knowledge of effective governance and commitment to the highest standards.
- Have integrity, independent judgement, an ability to challenge and think creatively, and a willingness to speak openly.
- Can step away from the detail, giving the strategic focus and direction necessary to for the organisation to flourish and develop in future.
We are actively seeking diverse thinking and experiences to help us improve and be fit for the future and will make a commitment to the role and devote the necessary time.
Previous board experience is useful but not essential.
Key responsibilities (jointly, with other directors):
- Ensuring BSAC has a clear vision and strategic direction and focusing on achieving these.
- Being responsible for the overall performance of BSAC and its culture and ethos.
- Ensuring that BSAC complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Acting as a guardian of BSAC’s assets, both tangible and intangible.
- Ensuring that BSAC’s business performance and governance is of the highest possible standard.
Time and commitment
Your dedication matters. We expect you to attend six council meetings per year, some virtual and approximately four face-to-face, currently held in Ellesmere Port where BSAC HQ is. You'll also engage in sub-committees and lend your expertise to relevant projects. While this is a voluntary role, we cover travel expenses and provide a comprehensive induction to ensure you're well-prepared for the journey ahead.
