BSAC's new National Diving Officer (NDO), Sophie Rennie, is calling for BSAC Advanced Instructors to put themselves forward for Chief Examiner positions within the organisation.
Many Advanced Instructors will already be working on the Instructor Training Scheme. Now, Sophie would really like to help these volunteers develop their skills further and to involve them more in some of BSAC’s central diving development activities in the National Diving Committee (NDC).
Any member who is passionate about diving, a team player and wants to help grow and develop BSAC at a higher level while also developing their own knowledge, skills and network, is invited to apply for one of three Chief Examiner roles.
The National Diving Committee acts as the expert advisory group for BSAC on all things diving, ensuring that experts peer-review courses, advise on latest diving developments and embed safety into all activities. The permanent roles on NDC are those of the Chief Examiners, who check all course and exam reports to ensure quality of feedback to students and consistent levels across all courses and exams.
The roles currently being recruited for are:
- OWI Practical Chief Examiner - view terms of reference
- OWI Theory Chief Examiner - view terms of reference
- Assistant Instructor Course Coordinator - view terms of reference
What's in it for me?

It’s important to me that we continue to develop our volunteer instructors who put so much time into BSAC. Our National Instructors are crucial to instructor development and I’d like to support more instructors reaching this level. Currently I am opening up some of the Chief Examiner roles to Advanced Instructors like you, as you have the necessary feedback skills to deliver what is needed for these roles.
