Members of the BSAC HQ team attended the 2024 Safeguarding Adults Conference in Nottingham on 20 November, as part of a renewed focus on adult safeguarding within the organisation and its clubs.

While safeguarding is commonly associated with the protection of under-18s, BSAC is committed to the welfare of all our members.

On Wednesday 20 November 2024 Safeguarding Officer Linda Ritson, along with Mary Tetley, BSAC CEO and Mandy Hill from membership, attended the Ann Craft Trust annual conference as part of Adult Safeguarding Week.

The Ann Craft Trust is a national charity which exists to minimise the risk of abuse and neglect in adults.

The event was a great opportunity for BSAC to network with other National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to share ideas and experiences. The core message of the conference is one at the heart of BSAC safeguarding: that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, best achieved through working in partnership.

Everyone deserves to be safe, whatever they are doing, and everyone should feel that their voice will be heard and action taken if they speak up when they don’t feel safe.

Every club should have a Welfare Officer, whatever the age of the membership – safeguarding is for adults as well as young people. BSAC Direct members are encouraged to make contact with the BSAC Safeguarding Officer – who will listen empathically and non-judgementally before taking appropriate action.

Lind Ritson said:

Over the coming months, our safeguarding documents will be updated and the website redesigned to better reflect this BSAC philosophy and to make it easier for members to find guidance and information.

If you have any specific questions, or would like a bespoke club session, please contact Linda Ritson on safeguardingofficer@bsac.com.
