Want to be able to fill your own diving cylinders and learn more about the high-pressure gas compressors used to fill them?

BSAC’s Compressor Operation course is a great way to find out about compressors and how to use them.

The Compressor Operator course is open to anyone. It’s a practical way to get non-divers involved in the club, especially if they have family members who dive. No diving qualification is necessary to take part.

You will learn about the design and working parts of gas compressors, and the air quality that divers need and how to test for it. You will also learn about cylinder regulations and become competent at compressor operation and cylinder filling.

The half-day course consists of four theory sessions, an open forum, and a practical session. You’ll have plenty of time to practise the skills needed to fill cylinders and will get plenty of feedback from course instructors.

This is a continually assessed course during which students must reach the required performance standards.

Having completed the Compressor Operator course you will have been trained to a reasonable level in filling diving cylinders from a high-pressure gas compressor. You’ll be better able to help out at the club compressor or use a portable compressor on club trips.

You could do this course at a regional event or local club. Not all clubs run Compressor Operator courses, so please check if you are interested.

Alternatively, book your place on a scheduled Compressor Operation course online now.

Students will be given a pack of supporting learning materials.

Your next steps – developing your skills

Regular practice at operating a compressor maintains confidence and will lead to opportunities to expand your skills. After this course you could further your gas-blending skills by doing Nitrox Gas Blender and Mixed Gas Blender Skill Development Courses (SDCs).

Or you could develop specific skills to expand your interests further, whether you are a diving member or non-diving member. Imagine being qualified in diver first aid or becoming a boat handler. Check out the Skill Development Courses (SDCs) you can get involved in.

If you are not already a diver, how about learning to dive on an Ocean Diver course. If you are already a diver you could progress your diver grade training.

Maybe you are thinking about becoming an SDC instructor, or want to improve your diver instructing skills? Further your instructing skills with BSAC.
